HYDERABAD: BJP senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Saturday demanded that the TRS government pay Rs 15,000 per acre compensation to the farmers whose crops were damaged due to torrential rains.
Stating that crops in nearly 13 lakhs acres were damaged due to heavy rains and floods in the state, he said Soya, Cotton and Maize were damaged in six districts due to floods.
He said the temple town of Bhadrachalam was severely affected due to rains and floods as Godavari river was in the spate. The water level in the river touched 70 feet mark near Bhadrachalam and flood water gushed into the houses with thousands of people being evacuated and moved to safety.
Though over 6000 houses are reported to have collapsed due to the torrential rains, they have not received financial assistance from the government. Double bed room houses should be given to the affected families, he demanded.
Even the supply of drinking water through Mission Bhagiratha project has been affected as the motors that pump water into overhead reservoirs got submerged in flood water at many places in the state, he said.
